Mumbai: The man who stood up to US Secret Service Agents and refused to take orders from them when US President Barack Obama visited India in November 2010, will be serving as Director General of Police (DGP) of the state for the next three years. No-nonsense officer Sanjeev Dayal, from 1977-batch IPS cadre, who has been known for his impeccable image, took over from predecessor K Subramanyam, who retired on Tuesday. The officer, hailing from Delhi, was a former commissioner of police of Mumbai and is well known for his integrity and strictness. In his 35 years of service as an IPS officer, Dayal has held several key positions across the state, along with stints with the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and Special Protection Group (SPG). He was DGP of the Anti-Corruption Bureau before he took over as the state’s top cop. “Dayal is the right choice for the post, as he has lots of experience. As Dayal now has a three-year tenure to serve, he can bring around big changes in the force,” said a police officer. Speaking about the task at hand, Dayal said, “I am thankful to the government for considering me for the post of DGP. I will try my best to improve the service delivery and the upholding of the law.” Dayal’s experience and seniority were the reasons the government chose him for the post and other contenders included R P Khilnani, DG (civil defence), P N Dixit, managing director, Police Housing and Welfare Corporation, and Sridevi Goel, ADG (State Reserve Police Force). ncidentally, all belong to the 1977 batch. The Obama episode Dayal’s strictness was reflected even with the US president’s convoy when Obama visited India in November 2010, while Dayal was the commissioner of police. Dayal had refused to allow US Secret Service agents to dictate terms to Mumbai police and held up Cadillac One, in which Obama and Michelle were seated. The convoy was allowed to proceed 11 minutes later, only after US snipers were evacuated from unauthorised vantage points along the route.

लुधियाना। भामियां रोड स्थित जैन कालोनी टी-प्वाइंट पर नाकाबंदी के दौरान पुलिस ने शराब की तस्करी करने के आरोपियों को रोकने की कोशिश की, तो आरोपियों ने पुलिस पर जमकर फायरिंग कर दी। इस दौरान पुलिस कर्मियों ने भी अपने बचाव में चार फायर हवा में कर दिए। आरोपियों ने अपनी दोनों कारें छोड़ मौके से भागने की कोशिश की। इसी दौरान पुलिस ने गिरोह के तीन आरोपियों को मौके पर ही गिरफ्तार कर लिया, लेकिन गिरोह का सरगना मौके से फरार हो गया। पुलिस ने गिरफ्तार आरोपियों के कब्जे से दो कारें व 90 पेटी शराब बरामद कर ली। पुलिस ने आरोपियों के खिलाफ हत्या के प्रयास व शराब तस्करी का मामला दर्ज कर पूछताछ करनी शुरू कर दी है। एडीसीपी-4 सुशील कुमार ने बताया कि एंटी लिकर स्मगलिंग स्टाफ के इंचार्ज हरबंस सिंह ने पुलिस पार्टी समेत भामियां रोड स्थित जैल कालोनी टी-प्वाइंट पर नाकाबंदी की हुई थी। इसी दौरान एक इनोवा और इंडिगो कार आ रही थी। पुलिस पार्टी ने जब दोनों कारों को रोकने की कोशिश की, तो कार में से मोहल्ला हरगोबिंदपुरा निवासी जगजीत सिंह सन्नी निकल कर बाहर आया। जगजीत सिंह के हाथ में पिस्तौल थी और उसने अपने साथियों के साथ मिलकर पुलिस पर फायरिंग करनी शुरू कर दी। आरोपियों ने पुलिस पर पांच फायर किए। पुलिस ने भी जवाब में हवा में चार फायर किए। इस दौरान जगजीत सिंह दोनों कारों को छोड़ अपने साथियों के साथ मौके से फरार होने कोशिश करने लगा। पुलिस ने आरोपियों का पीछा कर जगजीत सिंह के तीन साथियों को गिरफ्तार कर लिया, जबकि गिरोह का सरगना जगजीत सिंह मौके से फरार हो गया। पुलिस को गिरफ्तार आरोपियों की पहचान इंद्रा कालोनी निवासी संजीव कुमार, माछीवाड़ा निवासी गगनदीप सिंह उर्फ गगन और सोनू श्रीवास्तव के रूप में हुई है। पुलिस ने गिरफ्तार आरोपियों के कब्जे से दो कारें व 90 पेटियां शराब बरामद की है। पुलिस ने आरोपियों के खिलाफ हत्या के प्रयास व शराब तस्करी का मामला दर्ज कर दिया है। पुलिस फरार आरोपी जगजीत सिंह की तलाश में छापेमारी करने में जुटी हुई है। हत्या व लूट के मामले दर्ज हैं गिरोह के सरगना पर एडीसीपी सुशील कुमार ने बताया कि गिरोह के सरगना जगजीत सिंह उर्फ सन्नी पर पहले भी कई संगीन आपराधिक मामले दर्ज हैं। उन्होंने कहा कि जगजीत सिंह उर्फ सन्नी पर हत्या, हत्या के प्रयास व लूटपाट जैसे 11 मामले दर्ज हैं। इसके अलावा गिरफ्तार आरोपी संजीव कुमार पर भी हत्या के प्रयास समेत दो मामले दर्ज हैं।

Gujarat Police: Police official today apologised before a Parliamentary committee

A senior Gujarat Police official today apologised before a Parliamentary committee following a privilege notice by a Lok Sabha member that she was allegedly manhandled while on way to attend a government function in the state. Dahod SP Nipuna Torawane, who appeared before the Lok Sabha Privileges Committee along with district collector J M Luni and area DSP P J Sarang, is learnt to have apologised for the May 1 incident in which Congress MP Prabha Kishor Taviad was allegedly manhandled. The Committee took oral evidence of Taviad and sought the version of the three district officials about the incident. "After going through the verbatim proceedings, we will decide on the future course of action... Prima facie, the DSP is guilty. But the committee has to take a decision in the next meeting," said a member after today's meeting. The Privileges Committee had decided to summon the SP, collector and the Deputy SP of Dahod district following complaint by Taviad that she was manhandled while on way to attend the Gujarat Divas celebrations on May 1. Taviad had alleged in the Lok Sabha that she was manhandled by the state administration during the Gujarat Divas celebrations. Another Congress MP Girija Vyas had also raised the issue on her behalf in the House claiming that police had dragged Taviad to a jeep as soon as she ventured out of her house for Gujarat Divas celebrations and was mistreated by them. The Committee, meanwhile, could not discuss the privilege notice issued against activist Arvind Kejriwal for his alleged remarks against parliamentarians. In their notices given in March, Congress MPs Jagdambika Pal and Sajjan Singh Verma had claimed that Kejriwal demeaned the institution of Parliament and its members by reportedly making derogatory remarks against them.

भोपाल। गोविंदपुरा इलाके में सोमवार रात मोपेड सवार एक बदमाश ने एक प्राइवेट स्कूल की प्रिंसिपल से पांच तोला सोने के गहने व 30 हजार रुपए लूट लिए। वारदात के बाद महिला ने बदमाश का पीछा भी किया, लेकिन वो फरार हो गया। महिला प्रदेश के एक रिटायर्ड पुलिस अफसर की बहू हैं। लूटे गए माल की अनुमानित कीमत पौने दो लाख रुपए है। पुलिस के मुताबिक बागसेवनिया के रजत विहार इलाके में रहने वालीं सुमन पति सुरेंद्र यादव महर्षि विद्या मंदिर की प्रिंसिपल हैं। सुमन के ससुर मोहनलाल यादव रिटायर्ड पुलिस अफसर हैं। सुमन का मायका अयोध्या नगर में है। सोमवार रात करीब 8:45 बजे सुमन स्कूटी से अयोध्या नगर से रजत विहार लौट रही थीं, तभी गोविंदपुरा में हेमा स्कूल के पास एक बदमाश ने उनका बैग झपट लिया। बैग में पांच तोला सोने के गहने और 30 हजार रुपए रखे थे। सुमन ने बदमाश का पीछा भी किया, लेकिन वह फरार हो गया। हेमा स्कूल के पास ये तीसरी लूट की वारदात है।

Punjab Police: Amritsar: महिला पुलिस थाना की कमान एसीपी की बजाय अब एडीसीपी के हाथों..

दो जिलों के एकमात्र महिला पुलिस थाना की कमान एसीपी की बजाय अब एडीसीपी के हाथों में सौंप दी गई है। पुलिस कमिश्नर आरपी मित्तल ने एक आदेश जारी करके एडीसीपी हेड क्वार्टर हरिंदरजीत सिंह को महिला पुलिस थाने की कमान सौंप दी है। पंजाब सरकार के आदेश पर अमृतसर सिटी और अमृतसर देहाती पुलिस का महिला पुलिस थाना लाहौरी गेट स्थित थाना डी डिवीजन की इमारत में खोला गया है। एसीपी सेंट्रल के हाथों में इस थाने की कमान थी। वह सप्ताह में एक बार थाने का दौरा कर पुलिस कारगुजारी की समीक्षा करते थे। पुलिस कमिश्नर आरपी मित्तल ने एक आदेश जारी कर एडीसीपी हेड क्वार्टर हरिंदरजीत सिंह को महिला पुलिस थाने की निगरानी सौंपी है। पुलिस कमिश्नर का आदेश पाते ही एडीसीपी हेड क्वार्टर ने महिला पुलिस थाने के स्टाफ के साथ बैठक की। शुक्रवार की शाम हुई बैठक में थाना की एसएचओ कंवलदीप कौर के अलावा 13 पुलिसकर्मी शामिल हुए। एडीसीपी हेड क्वार्टर ने आदेश दिया कि पुलिस कमिश्नर द्वारा थाने में भेजे जाने वाले सभी मामलों की गहन जांच की जाए। यह प्रयास किया जाए कि शिकायतकर्ता और दूसरे पक्ष को समझा कर मामले का निपटारा किया जाए। आरोपियों को अपनी सफाई देने का मौका दिया जाए। आरोपियों को बुलाने के लिए कम से कम तीन बार नोटिस भेजा जाए। मामले में अगर कोई आरोपी पाया जाता है, तभी दहेज प्रताड़ना का केस दर्ज किया जाए। किसी भी केस में महिला आरोपी की गिरफ्तारी के समय महिला पुलिसकर्मी मौजूद हो। इस दौरान महिला पुलिस थाने के स्टाफ ने शिकायत की है कि उनके पास पहले से ही स्टाफ कम है। एडीसीपी ने थाना के एसएचओ को कहा कि पुलिस कमिश्नर के आदेश के बिना थाने के स्टाफ को किसी भी ड्यूटी पर न भेजा जाए।

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Moving with the times, Kerala police are getting ready to use social networking sites for a social cause- to trace the missing persons. Already, Kerala police have held discussions with Facebook service providers for the customisation of the account to suit the purpose. The account is expected to go live from next month. The unique suggestion came at a meeting of senior police officers with the Chief Minister last month. After Facebook, other social networking sites such as Twitter will also be enlisted. The figure of missing persons in the state is as high as 3,500� in a year and among them around 350 are yet to be traced. Kerala is one of the states with the highest number of missing persons reported on an annual basis. Only a few states like Delhi come ahead� of the state. “In the FB account,� there would be details and photos of� the missing persons which would be opened to all FB users of the country. But if any information is received,� it� would be shown only to the police. Since it is a wide network,� it would be of great help to trace the missing persons,” sources said. The police have already held talks with the FB service providers. The computer wing of the state Crime Records Bureau is looking into the technical aspect. An FB account is a testing platform. If it works successfully, such accounts would be opened on other social networking sites like Twitter. “Seventy per cent of the Facebook users come under the age group of 14 to 26. They are a very eager and enthusiastic group. We hope that their response would match our expectation which would help us to create some links about the missing persons,” Manoj Abraham, IG Police Headquarters, told Express. According to him, the attempt is the first of its kind in the country. The name of the FB account has not been decided yet. The police are looking for a catchy name which should not create any aversion to� the FB users to become ‘followers’ of it. Extra care would be taken to avoid hacking of the account and SCRB would be in the monitoring role, said a police official.
