To combat the menace of drink driving on Holi, police have planned a major crackdown and also presented statistics on the high number of prosecutions to act as a deterrent.
“The Delhi Traffic Police is organising a special drive against drink driving, speeding, dangerous driving, triple riding, minor driving, riding without helmet and other traffic violations during Holi. Last year 5,300 people were prosecuted for the same,” the Traffic department said.
Other than issuing challans, impounding vehicles, suspending driving licences and imprisoning defaulters, the Delhi Traffic Police has now started issuing directions to all defaulters with defective number-plates and tinted glasses to get in touch with the Traffic department and get them rectified within 72 hours.
“It is good to see that people of Delhi have complied with directions. On Holi, there will be a huge presence of the Traffic Police on roads,” said Satyendra Garg, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic).courty- ie.
