Bangalore : Opening of 25 new police stations, hike in special insurance from Rs three lakh to Rs ten lakh and extension of 'Arogya Bhagya' health scheme to retired personnel, were some of the bonanza announced by Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa to mark the Police Flag Day here today.
Speaking after honouring 99 police personnel with distinguished service awards here, he said the insurance benefit to the kin of police personnel killed while on duty would be increased to Rs ten lakh from the present Rs three lakh. Of the total 25 new police stations sanctioned last year, the work on 23 had been completed and this year another 25 new stations would be built.
He said Karnataka State Industrial Security Force would be established and to begin with 1,060 personnel would be provided training.
This year 1,035 Assistant Sub-Inspectors would be recruited exclusively for beat duty which would be intensified in the night to curb theft and robbery,'' Mr Yeddyurappa added.
The Chief Minister said the grant for the Police Housing Society was increased to Rs 40 crore in the Budget from Rs 25 crore allotted last year.
Functions to celebrate the Flag Day were held at District Headquarters throughout the state
