Ten months after Siddesh Kanade, 19, a member of Tardeo's Tulsiwadi Ganesh Mandal was electrocuted in a mobile toilet set up by the BMC at Giragaum Chowpatty, Ganesh mandals across the city have demanded better security of devotees at immersion spots this Ganeshotsav.

Representatives of Ganeshotsav Samanvay Samiti (GSS) met members of the Mumbai Traffic Police Department on Friday to discuss various demands for this year's festivities. Safety of devotees, who gather at the beaches in large numbers during the immersion, was their primary demand.

"We don't want devotees to lose their lives like Kanade. We have demanded safety precautions and have appealed to the department (Traffic) to ensure that contracts are given to reliable persons who will not leave naked wires around," said Naresh Dahibawkar, GSS secretary.

Kanade went to Girgaum Chowpatty last September to participate in the immersion. He was electrocuted inside a mobile toilet set up by the BMC at Chowpatty and lay inside unattended for 45 minutes.

"We don't want any mishaps this year. We have already brought this to their notice and will speak to other authorities about the same in our next meeting," Dahibawkar added.

GSS has also asked the Traffic department for permission to immerse idols at Bandra Reclamation. "The department has agreed to our demands and has decided to study the feasibility. It is getting increasingly impossible to manage crowds at immersion spots in Dadar and Mahim," he said.

AP Police: Marriage Racket: 5 held in connection with marriage racket in Hyderabad

City Police on Tuesday claimed to have busted a contract marriage racket involving poor Muslim girls with the arrest of five persons, including two Sudanese nationals. Acting on a complaint of the victim girl, Moghulpura police took up the investigation and arrested two women pimps and two quazis, w
ho allegedly helped in marrying her off to a Sudanese student studying in Hyderabad.

The victim alleged that she was forcibly married to the foreigner and the accused also forcibly took her thumb impression on a blank bond paper, police said, adding that the victim was sexually exploited by Mohammad Ansari (the Sudanese bridegroom) in the guise of nikah (marriage).

The girl alleged that the women and the foreigner lured her parents by paying them Rs 50,000 as mehar (nuptial gift). Another Sudanese, identified as Khaled Erashid, friend of the bridegroom, also misbehaved with her, police said.

After the probe, the police found that the women were indulged into performing contract marriages of Muslim girls from humble backgrounds with foreigners, particularly with the Sudanese.

Investigation also revealed that Ansari performed marriage only to satisfy his carnal pleasures during his stay in India and would have abandoned her.

In order to avoid possible legal complications, the accused even created a document that she has executed a Qula nama (divorce executed by a Muslim wife in favour of husband; in this case the Sudanese student), police said.

The Assistant Commissioner of Police (Santosh Nagar Division), Mohammad Ismail appealed to public to take help of police to verify the antecedents of foreigners through Wakf Board of Central Quazzat office before performing such nuptials.

Goa police :Goa drug cop: DGP want feedback on cop-drug paddler nexus

Goa Police force would be put through an anti-narcotics scan by top probe agencies - the CBI and the Narcotics Control Bureau - in wake of the increasing cop-drug mafia nexus cases in the state.

Goa Director General of Police Aditya Arya said both the agencies will have a parallel check on the force following allegations surfacing against many officers.

"We are trying to find out about the nexus. I have asked the two agencies to give an independent feedback on the police-drug nexus and submit a report after which we will take unbiased action," Arya told reporters here yesterday.

Goa Police have been facing allegations of aligning with the drug peddlers in the state. The nexus was exposed after two Israeli drug peddlers were arrested.

The cases related to policemen-drug peddler nexus are now being probed by CBI.

Arya said, "thorough scan will help us find out the black sheep in the force, who could be weeded out. We have to break the nexus". I accept the nexus might be there but we have to catch the people and require hard evidence to nab them. The community also plays a major role," he said.

Punjab Police : 107 tainted Punjab Police Services officers hold public dealing posts

In Punjab, as many as 107 Punjab police services (PPS) officers including 15 SP rank officials, are facing departmental probes for their alleged involvement in criminal cases, for committing procedural lapses etc, and most of them are holding public dealing postings all over the state.

A detailed list of 107 PPS officials including 15 SP rank officials was obtained by the TOI under the RTI Act which reveals all of them are appointed at public dealing posts in the police force despite having criminal and tainted background. The Punjab and Haryana high court advocate HC Arora said, "As per rules, police personnel with criminal background couldn't be appointed on the public dealing posts and till the pendency of court trial, the accused cops should be suspended."

Active participation of tainted and accused police officials in Punjab police would be made into an issue in upcoming assembly elections in the state, said president of People's Party of Punjab (PPP) and former Akali leader, Manpreet Badal in Chandigarh. Manpreet wondered how a common man could expect justice in a state ``where senior police officials want to contest elections on behalf of the ruling party.''

Among the two DSP rank Punjab police officials, DSP Bhupinder Singh, who is posted in Gidderbaha, has been convicted in a forgery case while the role of another DSP Bakhsish Singh, who is posted in Faridkot, is under scanner in connection with a double murder. Bakhsish Singh has also been booked in a corruption case. While the court trial of double murder case against him is going on in the district courts, he is appointed on a public dealing post in district Faridkot in Punjab.

मुंबई. पवई के हीरानंदानी इलाके में 11 जून को वरिष्ठ पत्रकार जे. डे की हत्या के बाद उनकी व्यक्तिगत एवं पेशवर जिंदगी पुलिस और मीडिया की जांच के दायरे में आ गई है। एक ऐसा आदमी जो गोपनीयता बनाए रखता था।

अपनी जिंदगी और परिवार को लेकर वह बहुत संजीदा था। अब उसी जे. डे की जिंदगी के पहलुओं को माइक्रोस्कोप के लेंस की मदद से जांचा जा रहा है। डे की हत्या को लेकर कई तरह की चर्चाएं सामने आई। इनमें से कुछ में डे की छवि को खराब करने की कोशिश भी हुई।

यह विचार आया कि जे. डे अंडरवर्ल्ड गैंग के काफी करीब पहुंच गए थे और हो सकता है कि उन्होंने कहीं पर लक्ष्मण रेखा लांघ ली हो। हालांकि जो लोग सालों से पेशेवर रूप से जे. डे को जानते हैं, वह इस विचार को मानने से स्पष्ट इनकार करते हैं।

डे भले ही अंडरवर्ल्ड गैंगस्टर्स से संपर्क में थे, लेकिन खबर से ज्यादा उनके लिए कुछ नहीं था। वह अपनी लक्ष्मण रेखा नहीं लांघ सकते।

एक दशक से ज्यादा समय से डे को जानने वाले एक पत्रकार का कहना है, ‘डे सभी अंडरवर्ल्ड गैंग के गैंगस्टर्स को जानते थे। वास्तव में मुंबई के वह ऐसे पत्रकार थे, जिनकी पहुंच सभी गैंगस्टर्स तक थी। लेकिन उन्होंने कभी भी अपने पेशागत आदर्शो का उल्लंघन नहीं किया।’

साथी पत्रकारों के ‘दादा’ डे बहुत ही मधुभाषी थे। नए पत्रकारों की मदद को हमेशा तैयार रहते थे। डे अक्सर कहते थे, ‘यह भविष्य की पीढ़ी है। यदि उन्हें इस उम्र में उचित मार्गदर्शन मिला तो वे आगे जाकर अच्छे जर्नलिस्ट बन सकते हैं।’

मुंबई पुलिस ने सोमवार को दावा किया कि गैंगस्टर छोटा राजन ने डे की हत्या की सुपारी दी थी। यह डे के कई करीबी दोस्तों के लिए बहुत बड़ा आश्चर्य है। बीत वर्षो में कई मौकों पर डे ने राजन से बातचीत की है।

हमेशा से उसने लक्ष्मण रेखा का ध्यान रखा। वास्तव में यदि वह जिंदा होते और उन्हें बताया जाता कि राजन उन्हें मारने की साजिश रच रहा है, तो वह हंसकर टाल जाते। वे कहते, ‘मैं बहुत छोटा आदमी हूं, राजन मुझे क्यों मारेगा।’

CG Police : सेना पुलिस को दे रही आईईडी से निपटने की ट्रेनिंग

सेना की मध्य कमान के कमांडर इन चीफ लेफ्टि. जनरल वीके अहलुवालिया का कहना है कि अगर पुलिस और केंद्रीय अर्ध सैनिक बल चाहें तो सेना उनको बारूदी सुरंगों से निपटने की और बेहतर ट्रेनिंग देने के लिए तैयार है।
पिछले चार सालों से सेना कई राज्यों की पुलिस और केंद्रीय अर्धसैनिक बलों के करीब 50 हजार जवानों को ट्रेनिंग दे चुकी है। इसमें विस्फोटक को संभालने का प्रशिक्षण भी शामिल है। जरूरत पड़ी तो सेना जबलपुर समेत अन्य स्थानों में संचालित अपने ट्रेनिंग सेंटरों में चार हफ्ते का विशेष प्रशिक्षण देने को भी तैयार है। लखनऊ लौटने के पहले सेना कमांडर ने मुख्यमंत्री डा. रमन सिंह और राज्यपाल शेखर दत्त से भी मुलाकात की।

हाल में कोंडागांव (बस्तर) में शुरू हुए सेना के ट्रेनिंग सेंटर का निरीक्षण करने लेफ्टि. जनरल अहलुवालिया सोमवार दोपहर को यहां पहुंचे थे। सोमवार की रात भी उन्होंने सेंटर में जवानों और अधिकारियों के बीच गुजारी। मंगलवार सुबह राजधानी पहुंचे कमांडर ने छत्तीसगढ़-उड़ीसा सब एरिया हेडक्वार्टर में सेना के स्थानीय अधिकारियों से चर्चा की। संवाददाताओं से बातचीत में श्री अहलुवालिया ने साफ किया कि सेना बस्तर में केवल ट्रेनिंग के लिए आई है। नक्सली ऑपरेशन से उसका लेना-देना नहीं है। नक्सलियों द्वारा सेना पर हमले की तैयारी की आईबी की रिपोर्ट पर उन्होंने कहा कि उन्हें ऐसा नहीं लगता। सेना पूरे इलाके की भलाई के लिए काम कर रही है। ऐसी सूरत में नक्सली क्यों हमला करेंगे। इसके बावजूद अगर कुछ दिग्भ्रमित लोगों ने ऐसा किया, तो सेना अपने लोगों, कैंप और संसाधनों की सुरक्षा के लिए सक्षम है। जवाबी कार्रवाई भी होगी।

लेफ्टि. जनरल ने इस बात पर हैरानी जताई है कि नक्सली सेना की बस्तर में मौजूदगी का किस वजह से विरोध कर रहे हैं। फिलहाल सेना का ट्रेनिंग कैंप कोंडागांव के आसपास चल रहा है। आसपास के गांवों में सेना जनकल्याण के काम कर रही है। मेडिकल कैंप चलाए जा रहे हैं। लोगों को पीने का साफ पानी मिले, इसकी व्यवस्था सेना कर रही है। गांवों की स्कूलों में पढ़ाई का इंतजाम सेना के जवान कर रहे हैं। ऐसी हालत में कोई विरोध क्यों करना चाहेगा।
उन्होंने स्वीकार किया कि नक्सलियों द्वारा बड़े पैमाने पर इस्तेमाल की जा रही बारूदी सुरंगें बड़ी समस्या हैं। पर सेना के पास उसका इंतजाम भी है। उन्होंने बताया कि सेना की कोशिश यही है कि छत्तीसगढ़ के ज्यादा से ज्यादा लोग सेना में भर्ती हों। गत अप्रैल में कांकेर में हुई भर्ती में नौ हजार से ज्यादा युवा शामिल हुए थे। इसमें छह सौ से ज्यादा ने रिटन टेस्ट के लिए क्वालीफाई कर लिया है। परीक्षा में वह बेहतर प्रदर्शन करें, इसके लिए सेना उनको ट्रेनिंग भी दे रही है।

CG Police : एसपी साहब के बंगले की दीवार ढही, 13 की मौत

अंबिकापुर के एसपी बंगले की दीवार ढह जाने से मंगलवार सुबह एक महिला समेत 13 लोगों की मौत हो गईं। ये सभी बंगले से लगे नगर निगम के यात्री प्रतीक्षालय में बस का इंतजार कर रहे था। पिछले दो दिनों से अंबिकापुर समेत आसपास के इलाके में जमकर बारिश हो रही है। कलेक्टर जीएस धनंजय का कहना है कि बारिश की वजह से यह हादसा हुआ।
रामानुजगंज की तरफ जाने वाले ज्यादातर यात्री इसी स्टॉप से बस पकड़ते हैं। बारिश के बीच करीब ३२ से ज्यादा लोग प्रतीक्षालय के शेड में बस का इंतजार कर रहे थे। अचानक दीवार भरभराकर ढह गई। 20 से ज्यादा लोग मलबे में दब गए। हादसे के बाद पूरे इलाके में भगदड़ मच गई।

आसपास के लोगों ने तुरंत मलबा हटाकर लोगों को निकालना शुरू किया। घटनास्थल के पास ही सीआरपीएफ का कैंप भी है।
सूचना मिलते ही सीआरपीएफ के जवानों ने भी वहां पहुंचकर मलबा हटाने में मदद की। मलबे से निकाले जाने तक आठ लोगों की घटनास्थल पर ही मौत हो चुकी थी। मरने वाले ज्यादातर लोग मजदूर हैं। एंबुलेंस पहुंचने में भी आधा घंटा लग गया। पांच अन्य ने अंबिकापुर के मिशन अस्पताल और जिला अस्पताल में इलाज के दौरान दम तोड़ दिया। मिशन अस्पताल में चार और जिला अस्पताल में पांच घायलों का अस्पताल में इलाज चल रहा है।
घायलों में से पांच लोगों की हालत चिंताजनक बनी हुई है। माना जा रहा है कि बारिश की वजह से मिट्टी की जुड़ाई से तैयार की गई ईटों की दीवार कमजोर हो गई थी। हादसे पर दुख व्यक्त करते हुए मुख्यमंत्री डॉ. रमन सिंह ने मृतकों के परिजनों को मुख्यमंत्री सहायता कोष से १-१ लाख रुपए और घायलों को २५-२५ हजार रुपए देने की घोषणा की है।
