The Act authorises the Commissioner to auction the vehicles that are in the possession of the police. KN Police: high court has directed city police to arrest B Krishna Bhat, ex-chairman

The high court has directed city police to arrest B Krishna Bhat, ex-chairman of Vishwa Bharati House Building Co-operative Society Limited, and produce him before the bench on August 25.

Petitioner B Srinivasa Rao alleged that the seniority list of members of the society had not been furnished to enable the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) to undertake bulk allotment of sites.

A division bench headed by justice N Kumar was not satisfied with the endorsement given to the high court on action being taken on the police official who could not execute the non-bailable warrant issued to Bhat on January 14.

Thereafter, police commissioner BG Jyothi Prakash Mirji was summoned to the court. The commissioner assured the court that Bhat would be brought before the bench on the next date of hearing.

The bench directed that Bhat, ex-chairman of the society, be arrested and produced before the court on August 25. It also issued direction seeking reply from the police commissioner on why action should not be initiated against the police officer for failing to execute the bailable warrant.

Bhat appeared before the court on his own and sought for a recall of the warrant issued against him.

MP Police: MP Cooperative minister Gaurishankar Bisen does it Again, this time accused MP Police....

INDORE: Cooperative minister Gaurishankar Bisen is once again in news. This time, for levelling allegations against the police department for 'falsely' implicating the cooperative department officials. On Saturday, he condemned the police for what he described as its irresponsible act. It is the second time in past few weeks when Bisen courted controversies by his utterances. Some weeks ago, Bisen had allegedly made castiest comments against a patwari and made him to do sit-ups for the alleged laxity. The patwari was employed under the revenue department.

The cooperative minister, who was in Indore for some department work, told media persons that there is a certain procedure for action against erring officials of the cooperative department. After inquiry at various levels, the government has found some guilty officials, and the files pertaining to them (guilty officials) are pending with the principal secretary, he said, adding that action would be taken as per the law.

"No guilty would be spared," the minister said, adding even the cooperative housing societies against whom charges were proved would be liable for action as per the law. About the delay in action, the minister said, it is not possible to take any action unless the procedure is completed. Or else, they may take advantage of legal loopholes, the minister added. Perhaps keeping in mind Bisen's past record to kick up rows, BJP State president Prabhat Jha, was said to have directed him to limit himself to the department's policies.

Bisen conceded that the public distribution system suffered from some lapses. "It has been seen that beneficiaries are not getting full advantage from fair price shops," he said., adding the PDS in the state is under review and the shops would be soon computerized to enable monitoring of the system with full transparency. He disclosed that after April 1, farmers availing loans from cooperative societies would have to bear 11 per cent interest against the existing 12 per cent. "The facility would be extended to farmers only for sowing," he said.

If farmers deposit loan before due date, they would get more benefits, the minister added. "The relief would be in form of incentives to farmers on interest from the state government," said Bisen. As regards the controversies, he said he has not hurt anybody and denied that he ever made any comment against tribals.

Delhi Police: Anna Hazare: Anna Hazare brought a change in the hearts of criminals too, 35% decline in the crime rate since Anna began his fast

NEW DELHI: Has Anna Hazare brought about a change in the hearts and minds of criminals too or is Delhi Police making a tall claim? Believe it or not, senior officers are claiming that there has been a 35% decline in the crime rate since Anna began his fast.

The cops claimed the huge deployment of forces across the city for the protest and the just-concluded Independence Day celebrations have helped bring down the crime rate. How a city that is used to witnessing at least seven heinous crimes a day has not seen even one major murder or rape in a span of six days is quite puzzling.

Sources in Delhi Police say around 400 FIRs are filed in the city daily (the rest are a huge number of diary entries which do not usually show up). However, between August 13 and August 15, around 300 FIRs were filed daily. Sources attributed this to two things - thousands had travelled outside the city even as 18,000 security personnel kept guard. However, it is the period between August 16 and August 19 which has come as a major surprise. This is the time when the media captured the groundswell of support for Anna. As a result, claim cops, only 210 FIRs were registered daily at the police stations.

MP Police: Shehla Masood murder case: a telephonic conversation in which the murdered activist was threatened by senior IPS officer

Bhopal: It's been five days since RTI activist Shehla Masood was killed in Bhopal, but the police are still clueless if it was a suicide or murder the person who took on the mighty, and was a key member of the city's Anna Hazare movement.
CNN-IBN has accessed a telephonic conversation in which the murdered activist was threatened by senior IPS officer Pawan Shrivastava.
The conversation between Masood and Shrivastava accessed was as follows:
> Shehla: Please connect me to the Sir.
> Pawan Shrivastava: Hello
> Shehla: Sir I could not complete. The phone got disconnected.
> Pawan Shrivastava: No I have completed and said what I had to say.
> Shehla: Sir I could not understand what should I do. What letter should I take back. Should I come right now?
> Pawan Shrivastav: No you take your application back.
> Shehla: Oh that application
> Pawan Shrivasta: Yes, you take back all your applications. All the information that you have sought under RTI, you first take that back.
The conversation, recorded by Shehla Masood in 2009, was presented before the state Chief Information Commissioner along with several other documents on what was happening inside the cultural department.
Pawan Shrivastava was director in culture department then. Few months later on January 19, 2010 Masood wrote a letter to Madhya Pradesh DGP SK Rout, on how she feared for her life from Pawan Shrivastava. The DGP referred the complaint to Bhopal IG Shailendra Shrivastava. The DGP has said everyone one including Pawan Shrivastava would be questioned.
"We will question everyone. Whosoever the family is expressing their suspicion on will be questioned. Investigation is on, a team has been formed to verify the phone talks, the family has sought CBI probe into this," said Rout.
The state government has already written a letter to the CBI to take over the case. But the family members have expressed fears that the police is still trying to convert it into case of suicide. Now it becomes tough to hold onto that theory.
