Apart from bringing traffic to a grinding halt, the recent toll hike on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway has triggered off a war of words between the agency concerned and the Traffic department.
Traffic Police say that according to the rules, vehicle have to be let through the toll gate within a specific period of time. If that does not happen, the motorist can pass without paying the toll.
“If there is no way out, we will have to bring this rule into effect and force the opening of separate lanes,” Bharti Arora, DCP (Traffic), told Newsline. However, no communication has been made to the company in this regard so far, she added.
Traffic on the expressway became a nightmare owing to the increase in toll from Rs 20 to Rs 21 for private vehicles — starting April 1.
While the traffic jam stretched for 2.5 kilometres, till IIFCO Chowk, the matter was no different for those coming from the other side. As many drivers did not know of the toll hike, they did not have the required change.
