The funds for setting up the training academy are being provided by the Union Home Ministry and 400 acres of land has already been identified for the purpose in Bhopal, Director General of Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D) Vikram Srivastva told reporters here.
Srivastva said once the academy is set up, it would especially benefit those states which lack infrastructure for police training. "All the police officers recruited as direct gazetted officers or at the level of Deputy Superintendent of Police level, would be trained in the academy."
He was speaking on the eve of the 41st All India Police Science Congress (AIPSC) being held for the first time in Uttarakhand.
The academy would also impart training to 500 trainers from the states so that a uniformity can be brought in the police training in the country, he said.
Srivastva said the Centre has also sanctioned two new central detective schools, one at Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh and another at Gandhinagar in Gujarat, and the process has already been started for their early establishment.
With this, the total number of such schools will rise to five as the others are already being run at Hyderabad, Kolkata and Chandigarh, he said.
In these schools, specialised training courses like on collection of forensic evidence are being run and scores of officers including some from friendly foreign countries have been imparted training, the DG said.
Nearly 5,000 police officers would get training in 30 courses from the schools during the current financial year ending March 31, 2012.
