TN Police: Chennai: 21 new police station buildings, eight offices, eight women police stations, 480 police residential quarters and 67 new houses for prison officers...

Chennai: Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Monday inaugurated new buildings for police stations, residential quarters and district police offices constructed through Tamil Nadu Police Housing Corporation at a cost of Rs 45.25 crore across 26 districts.

She inaugurated 21 new police station buildings, eight offices, eight women police stations, 480 police residential quarters and 67 new houses for prison officers through video conference facility from the secretariat, an official release said.


Speaking on the occasion, Jayalalithaa said the inauguration of new buildings was part of her government's vision in giving top priority to maintain law and order.

She asked the police personnel to show humanness and be a good friend and guide for the public.

Noting that the first all-women police station in the state was set up during her previous regime in 1992, she expressed happiness in launching eight more new all-women police stations.

She said 480 new residential quarters for police personnel had been set up close to their workplace to improve efficiency.

"The government is providing various incentives to the police department and they should discharge their duties to the public in right earnest", she said.
