LUCKNOW: To keep a tab on rising crime and increasing passengers rush, Railways has reviewed security measures. For this, the senior officials of northern railway conducted a meeting with Railway Protection Force and Government Railway Police. In order to check the increasing incidents of crime most of the important mails/express/passenger and local trains being escorted by RPF and GRP over the jurisdiction of northern railway will be monitored. While RPF, northern railway is escorting 143 trains, GRP is escorting 545 trains.
To curb the rising incidents of drugging, anti-drugging squads are also functional in divisions.
The major cause of these incidents is the encroachment by slum dwellers near the tracks, said an official release. Railways, between January and August, have arrested 55 people for 25 detected cases of robbery and 17 people against four detected cases of dacoity in northern railway zone. While in drugging cases, 30 arrests have been made against 19 detected cases and 167 people have been arrested for 144 detected cases of theft of passengers' belongings between January and July.
